Do I need to use roasted almonds?

Roasted almonds are necessarily for a nice roasted flavor in this recipe. If you don’t have roasted almonds, you can roast your own.

To roast your own almonds, take shelled raw or natural almonds, and roast them on a baking sheet for 375 Fahrenheit for 8 minutes or until lightly roasted. Cool completely before using in the recipe.

How to make chocolate almond spread

This is such a simple recipe!

Place almonds in the food processor, and process on medium for 5 to 10 minutes, or until finely ground. You may need to scrape down the sides occasionally.

This is the hardest part of this recipe, as the almonds seem to take forever to grind into a nice paste. Be patient, as they’ll eventually form a lovely, smooth dry paste.

While almonds are processing, melt chocolate chips with coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl for 30 seconds on medium. If not completely melted, stir and microwave for an additional 15 seconds at a time until melted.

Add melted chocolate and coconut oil mixture, cocoa powder, and honey to the ground almonds to the food processor. Process for another 2 or 3 minutes, or until the almond butter forms a smooth paste.

If the paste isn’t smooth, add more coconut oil, 1 teaspoon at a time until it’s the desired consistency.

Store in a jar in the fridge.

Serve with fresh fruit for dipping, or spread on toast.
